How Midwifery Helps the Environment

HAZARDOUS WASTE DECREASED!

Using a Midwife for birthing your baby reduces hazardous waste. Hospitals dispose of everything in these modern times (including their steel instruments) due to AIDS and other serious diseases.

NO DRUGS

Major drug companies produce lots of chemical waste researching and making their procucts. Hospitals encourage patients to use drugs during labor for a variety of reasons:

a) Nursing shortage - the nurses can monitor more than one mom at a time from the nursing station if they are on epidurals.

b) The nurses are also required to do more and more paperwork, if the mom doesn’t need coaching for pain, or is asleep, the nurse can keep up with the paperwork (which is mostly CYA, or cover your @*#+!) anyway.

c) Anesthisiologists - Most hospitals require an anesthisiologist to be on site in case they are needed for an emergency cesarean. They need moms to take drugs to make their living.

By not using drugs in labor and birth we are giving our children a healthy start, and a better chance at a drug free future.

BREASTFEEDING

Midwives promote breastfeeding wich is environmentally sound for so many reasons. No bottles (plastic) used, no energy spent heating formula. Conveniently, First Breath is located next to Nature’s Mother, a store which provides natural baby items and breatfeeding support for moms.

ALL-NATURAL PRODUCTS THAT ARE SAFE FOR THE EARTH

Midwives recommend and/or sell organic foods, natural supplements, cotton clothes to all of our families.

MARSUPIAL PARENTING

“Wearing your Baby” reduces consumerism....less ’gadgets’ to buy to put baby in, all results in less plastic! Midwives educate their clients about how little they actually NEED to buy to prepare for the little one’s arrival.

And, last, but not least:

A HEALTHY EARTH BEGINS WITH BIRTH!
